The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters are a crucial part of a $47 million, six-aircraft order placed last year. These versatile helicopters are capable of aerially combating rural fires and providing efficient transport. The purchase contract was awarded in September 2022 to Arista Aviation, based in Enterprise, Alabama, a United Aero Group firm specializing in overhauling and modernizing various used helicopter platforms.
As part of the contract, Arista Aviation will provide training for six pilots and 21 mechanics, along with five years of on-site maintenance and logistical support. Notably, these firefighting-capable aircraft boast the capacity to transport up to a dozen crew members and carry more than 750 gallons of water—an attribute that has proven highly successful in fighting U.S. wildfires in California and other Western states.
