Seamless Integration of Future Technologies:
The modernization initiative aims to make the rocket launchers practically indistinguishable from new units, ensuring enhanced longevity and efficacy. Additionally, it facilitates the seamless utilization of future ammunition types and guarantees compatibility with various payloads, amplifying the versatility and adaptability of Finland's defense capabilities.
Strategic Partnership with Lockheed Martin:
The acquisition and upgrade process were meticulously advanced, with the United States Congress granting a sales license to Finland in August 2023. Lockheed Martin, a renowned US-based defense contractor, has been entrusted with executing the upgrade, establishing a partnership aimed at fortifying Finland's defense infrastructure.
Comprehensive Upgrade Package:
The comprehensive upgrade package, estimated at approximately 450 million euros excluding VAT, encompasses multifaceted improvements promising to revolutionize the functionality of Finland's rocket launcher systems. The shift to the M270A2 version aligns Finland's defense forces with new technological advancements, reflecting the evolution of the M270 MLRS.
Key Advancements and Significance:
The M270A2 upgrade integrates the Common Fire Control System (CFCS), enabling the utilization of Precision Strike Missiles (PrSM) and other enhancements. This critical upgrade extends the strike distance through the Universal Fire Control System, also present in the new High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) models. The inclusion of GPS-guided precision fires capability and the ability to launch Finnish-furnished practice rockets exemplify the seamless integration of novel products into the system.
