Embraer, a distinguished global aerospace company based in Brazil, is marking a significant achievement with the successful delivery of its fifth EMB 145 AEW&C aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB). This aircraft, now known as E-99M, showcases the advanced capabilities of Embraer Defense & Security, a key player in the defense and security sector.
Advanced Capabilities for Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C)
The E-99M takes a prominent role in Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) functions, significantly enhancing the intelligence, surveillance, and airborne reconnaissance capabilities of the Brazilian Air Force. Built on the proven platform of the ERJ 145 regional jet, the FAB’s E-99 excels in detecting, tracking, and identifying targets within its coverage zone, smoothly transmitting crucial information via Data Link.
Full Operational Capability (FOC) Configuration: A Pivotal Moment
Bosco da Costa Junior, President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, emphasizes the importance of this achievement, stating, “The delivery of the fifth E-99 is a pivotal milestone for the E-99M project. This is the first aircraft delivered in Full Operational Capability (FOC) configuration, with systems fully certified for use by the Brazilian Air Force for protecting the country and its national sovereignty.”
Enhanced Features for Superior Performance
The E-99M aircraft boasts a range of upgraded components, including the cutting-edge Erieye Radar and Command & Control (C2) systems. This advanced technology is complemented by new Electronic Warfare (Non-Communication – NCOM) systems, an IFF Transponder, and seven software-defined V/UHF radios. Additionally, a new Mission Audio system with VoIP technology, a Mission Audio and Data recorder, and a Data Link function adapted to a new architecture significantly contribute to the aircraft's heightened capabilities.
Crew Comfort and Efficiency Improvements
Beyond technological advancements, the interior of the E-99M has undergone updates to enhance crew comfort and operational efficiency. The introduction of five redesigned consoles optimizes the use of upgraded systems, ensuring a seamless and productive mission experience.
Collaborative Success on a Global Scale
The E-99M project is a collaborative effort led by the Combat Aircraft Program Coordinating Committee (COPAC), involving international suppliers such as SAAB, Aeroelectronica International (AELI), and Rohde & Schwarz. Atech, a subsidiary of Embraer, plays a crucial role in the project by developing part of the command-and-control system, as well as six mission planning and analysis stations, offering valuable training and development opportunities for the crews.
