Lockheed Martin Australia is pleased to announce the successful completion of the SEA 4000 Phase 6 Combat System Design Agent (CSD-A) contract, marking a significant step forward in enhancing the capabilities of the Royal Australian Navy's (RAN) Hobart-class Guided Missile Destroyers (DDGs). The project, delivered on time and within budget, marks a milestone in updating the design architecture to integrate Aegis Combat System Baseline 9 capabilities, including ballistic missile defense, into the RAN's fleet.
Playing a key role in the Aegis Baseline 9 DDG Upgrade, Lockheed Martin Australia provided advanced combat systems engineering services under the CSD-A contract. The scope of work included a successful System Requirements Review, incremental design reviews, DDG platform physical configuration audits, and the creation of a state-of-the-art Combat Information Centre 3D virtual environment. This tool provides RAN operators with a vivid, user-friendly visual representation of the combat system compartments, enhancing operational efficiency.
The success of Lockheed Martin Australia is the result of close collaboration with the RAN, the Department of Defence Naval Shipbuilding and Sustainment Group (NSSG), and industry partners. The company has built a robust maritime workforce of over 140 professionals nationally, well-equipped to continue leading in Aegis Combat System integration, sustainment, and upgrade work across Australia.
Transitioning seamlessly into the Combat System Integration – Integrated Project Team post CSD-A, Lockheed Martin Australia, in collaboration with BAESMA and Saab Australia, assumes a pivotal role in providing engineering expertise for the Combat System elements of the Destroyer Upgrade. Over the next decade, this collaborative effort will ensure the successful delivery of Combat System upgrades across HMAS Hobart, HMAS Sydney, and HMAS Brisbane.
Rob Milligan, Lockheed Martin Australia’s Integrated Warfare Systems and Sensors Line of Business Lead, expressed pride in the contract completion, emphasizing the collaborative efforts with the Department of Defence, the RAN, and industry partners. The success underscores Lockheed Martin Australia's commitment to delivering on the RAN's operational priorities and solidifies its position as the Australian industry custodian of Aegis.
Warren McDonald, Lockheed Martin Australia and New Zealand Chief Executive, commended the RAN's initiation of critical upgrades to the Hobart-class Destroyers' Aegis Combat System. The Aegis upgrades not only align with the US Navy's modernization program but also bolster combat system lethality and advance interoperability with allies across the Indo-Pacific region.
